Biography
Fred Dunn-Caviezel was born and brought up in Chur, Switzerland. He started to learn the Accordion at the tender age of 6, and later added wind and strings and Piano to his repertoire.
At 16 he commenced music teacher training and qualified in Winterthur Switzerland in 1967.
The person with biggest influence in Fred's composing was Karl Grossmann, who taught him harmony until he knew it inside out.
He had lessons in harmony and composing for four years, firstly with Karl Grossmann, and then with the well known and respected Swiss music teacher and composer Josef Gmür.
Fred ran his own music school in Chur, until in 1979 he settled in Canterbury, and proceeded to build up a school which he runs to this day. He has been fully self employed as a music teacher and composer since 1985. The school is celebrating it's 28th anniversary.
His music style is heavily influenced by his many years in Switzerland, and this comes through in his compositions, which are perhaps more continental than truly Swiss, with many French musette, Italian mazurkas, Polkas, Tangos etc.
He loves composing and teaching, and still gets the same buzz as he did all those years ago when he started out.
Married to Jacqueline ( also Swiss from Zürich) since 1971 with 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
